A better snake (?)

Looloopaa made a funny edit of a pokemon to make it look like it had a hand instead of its head... and that reminded me of my yet-to-be-drawn sand-snake for the pyramid. It was looking good (else it wouldn't be featured on the banner), but I'm struggling to be consistent with its design, especially when it's attacking and not just being intimidating. I picked up my boox and tried to sketch what a hand-snake would look like

(for reference, the original GBC interpretation of Slapras). And regarding whether that would be drawing inspiration too far, the artist said:
Hah, I'm not the first person to replace a head with a hand and I won't be the last. If it sounds fun I say you should go for it! -- looloopaa

There would be another benefit from having a s-hand-snake: in a world where the most common limb is a floating blob, it helps understanding where people crafting those giant stone smasher drew inspiration from.

Sands. More Sands.

So I've been watching more Fury of the Furries pyramid levels, analyzing level design in Aladdin (SNES) and brainstorming with my 8y.o. J.L.N ... I start having more gameplay ideas to fit in the desert zone of my next game.

The possibly most interesting part is an extended set of moves for the 'Sandworm' monster. Making it bouncy fits the gimmick of spring-snakes and makes it a dangerous-but-useful character, similar to inkjet in the School Zone.

J.L.N wanted it to be able to spit poisonous stings when the player is too far for a normal attack ... that might be for a 'red'-tinted one. (oh wait. They're made of sands ... red-eyed one ?). He also wanted to be able to turn it into a pile of sand that could be used to fill in the spiky grounds and make them less hazardous.

I wasn't hot about using a 'PULL BLOCK' mechanics for ink-level-switch in the school zone, but as a block-with-handle within a pyramid, I find it fine. We can use it to make a block lower (and grant access), to drain sand of another area (and e.g reveal a door), or flood spikes with sands.

Aladdin level design wasn't that inspiring, though. I finally drew a first pyramid level (still kept secret) with J.L.N, but I used more info from 'Your First Koopa' analysis (on how to introduce ScorpEyes and sandworms) together with recent analysis of The Messenger grotto level on how increasingly difficult variant of a challenge are put together to make the level, which I apply here to the 'falling sands that turn into slanted conveyer belts'

I need to find daily motivation to bring life to the pyramid level in Bilou's Dreamland. I had no only little issues designing for the School Zone because it was easy for me to imagine talks and accidents featuring school supplies. Plus, any random errand could make me bump into some supply I hadn't thought about so far, which in turn triggers more game design ideas. But we're a bit short on lost temples and pyramids around here.

So given how many times the former, green banner pushed me forward making things become real, let's try to make a new pyramid-themed banner with what I already have and see whether that pushes me to make that level turn true, will we ?

Unless you were friend with my bro' in the 90s or someone really cool, it's unlikely you've come across the Wormouth of the Shadowlands. Yet, I'd like to share the experience of this monster with the players of Bilou : Infinite Pyramid. It is small on screen, but yet giving you the thrill when you spot it. It it readable, but yet can be easily missed if you don't pay attention. It is treacherous, make you feel cool once you figured how to go past it, or even defeat it.

A random tweet featuring a sort of zombie knight remembered me of that Ulysse 31 episode with swamp-things and I thought I could have a snake made of sand instead of trying to make the snake look exotic enough to be part of Bilou's world. It would be a sandworm, literally. It would look like the upper layer of sand was continuously cascading down its body.
